Beautiful spring flowering tree. The eye-catching pink flowers appear in clusters that nearly cover the bare branches of the tree. They remain for two to three weeks. They usually appear in early spring after the white flowers of serviceberry. Grows 12’ to 30’ in height and 15’ to 35’ wide. Redbuds growing in the sun will be compact and rounded; when grown in shade, their form is loose, open and tall. Prefers moist soils. Tolerate poor soil and salt spray making it a good roadside tree. Great for small spaces and urban areas. Massachusetts is just north of its native range.
Size: 18”-24″ bare root seedling
The flowers are pollinated by long-tongued bees such as blueberry bees and carpenter bees. On Dr. RJ Gegear list of plants that support at risk insects particularly native bumblebees.
