New from our supplier this year! Fragrant, this 1856 French heirloom has fully double, 5” fuchsia-pink flowers with paler petals at the center and darker, wide guard petals.

Two year old rootstock. Each rootstock has varying amounts of roots, and three to five eyes for optimum flower production the first spring (some rootstocks may be trimmed of old wood to allow new root growth). Mid to late. Bloom time in horticultural zone 5: May.

Prepare the planting site by cultivating 2’ wide by 1.5’ deep holes, 3’ to 4’ apart. Fill each hole with 1’ of good loam. Plant each rootstock so that the crown is just 2” below the soil level with the eyes, or sprouts, pointing up. Do not plant them any deeper as it could inhibit flower production. If they are not planted to the proper depth, the plant may not flower. Carefully shovel loose soil around the rootstock. Do not apply any soil amendments to the Peony crown area after planting (absolutely no manure of any kind: it can cause crown rot). Height: 32”. 3’ wide. Photo Credit: Van Engelen
