The Eastern Screech–Owl (Megascops asio) is a small, camouflaged owl and an opportunistic cavity nester, who will make home high in the trees or in a nest box. They can nest deep in the forest or in an open woodland. Install your screechowl box 10-30′ high on a live tree or a pole, facing any direction, and with a branch nearby. Attach metal flashing to the front and sides of the box as a predator deterrent if in a tree or use a predator guard if it is installed on a pole. Fill the box 2-3 inches with wood shavings before installation. Listen at night for their mysterious trill call.
